Set an alarm to cut off digital distractions
We all know that digital distractions can disrupt your sleep. It can cause you to not be able to fall asleep as quickly or naturally, and it can disrupt your sleep throughout the night. So a great tip is to set yourself an alarm that will encourage you to ditch the digital distractions in the evening before going to bed.
This means that you come away from the screen time and things like the TV and your mobile phones for around one hour before you are due to go to bed. Instead, relax in another way such as reading a book or enjoying a warm bath. This sets the indication to your body that it is time to relax ready to naturally fall into a deep sleep.
Change your bed linen
Another great tip is to change your bed linen. Making your bed might form part of your routine, but if you are really struggling to get some sleep or have a peaceful night rather than frequent wake-ups and feeling uncomfortable then the problem might be with your bed linen.
Your sleep patterns are affected by all sorts of things including your body temperature, and if the bed linen is causing you to get too hot or not be warm enough, then this could cause a problem. Changing your bed linen regularly is also a great way to encourage a more restful night’s sleep. You feel fresher in cleaner bed linen.

Consider what you eat
It is important for you to do what you can to help you get a good night’s sleep and what you eat can play a vital role. At night, try to avoid a heavy meal in the evening. Or make it your intention to eat a good few hours before you plan on going to bed. This gives your body a chance to digest food and stops anything heavy sitting in your stomach causing you to feel discomfort.
There are also sleep-inducing foods that you may want to incorporate into your diet, especially at night. Things like almonds, bananas, and fatty fish can all help.
Think about your drinks
While you are thinking about the food that you eat it is also important to consider what you drink. Caffeine can keep you awake at night, so avoid any caffeinated drinks after 3 pm to ensure that it is out of your system. Equally, you might want to avoid alcoholic drinks. They don’t encourage a good night’s sleep and can even wake you in the night as they become a stimulant. Drinking more water can help your body to stay hydrated which can help you to feel more relaxed and able to naturally fall asleep at night.

Exercising throughout the day encourages more sleep
Exercise can also help you to get a better night’s sleep. If you have spent the day doing nothing, and not moved your body, then you will find it harder to naturally fall asleep as your body won’t feel tired. However, moving more, even simply going out for a walk, can be enough to help you naturally fall asleep and feel better.
Making exercise and movement part of your routine will not only improve your health, your mood, but it enables your body to rest easy when it needs to.
Deal with anxiety before bed
Finally, we can all feel anxious and worried, and at night this can be one of the biggest triggers for a bad night’s sleep. A great hack is to take a moment in your evening to write down any worries that you have, anxieties you might be feeling, or even clear your mind of things you need to do the following day.
By doing this exercise, you are taking all of those things out of your mind and giving yourself a chance to breathe and think clearer. Helping you to not worry in your sleep and cause wake-ups. It might not completely cure this, but it gives you a better chance of overcoming anxiety at night.
Hopefully, these hacks will help you to get some sleep tonight.
