7 Ways To Make Your Bedroom Cleaner And Healthier

Reduce The Junk

Your first mission when it comes to creating a cleaner bedroom is getting rid of all of the junk and clutter that has built up since you last cleaned. Even if you only tidied a couple of weeks ago, there could still be a small mountain of clothes, books, and whatever else in the corner of your room. All of this clutter can make it hard to relax, and so is sure to affect your sleep. It also traps dirt, dust, and bacteria, which are bad for your health, and can irritate your lungs.

Dust Often

Dust can build up quickly in a bedroom, as it’s often overlooked when you’re cleaning the rest of the house. Unfortunately, this dust can irritate your lungs, which can lead to asthma and allergies, meaning that your sleep with be interrupted throughout the night. To avoid this, it’s important that you dust about once a week, wipe down window sills and hard furniture, and vacuum upholstered furniture.

Change Your Mattress

If you’ve ever read about the history of sleep, you’d know that, while eight hours of sleep is commonly recommended, it’s not believed to be necessary by many professionals. There is a very similar debate when it comes to mattresses; Most believe you should replace your mattress every eight years, but some say it’s up to you to decide when you need a new one. Considering the amount of dust and bacteria that build up in your mattress, I think eight years is sensible.

Keep Pets Away

Cats and dogs are adorable, so it’s no wonder that most owners let them sleep in bed with them. Unfortunately, this is a huge mistake, as their fur, and anything else they bring in from outside can easily lead to allergies and asthma. Ideally, you should keep your pets out of your room completely, but if you can’t or won’t do this, then at least keep them off your bed, and get them a pet bed on the floor instead.

Deep Clean Carpets

Most people have carpets in their bedroom, but, as comfy and cosy as carpet is, it can also lead to loss of sleep and illness. Carpets easily trap dirt, dust, and bacteria, so it’s essential that you vacuum at least once a week, especially if you let your pets in your bedroom. You also need to deep clean at least once a month, to get rid of anything a little deeper than your vacuum might have missed.

Open A Window

If the weather allows it, you should open up your windows every day and let the air out of your bedroom. This will help to get rid of any dust or damaging gases that might have built up over time, which would cause irritation to your lungs. You could also consider getting an air purifier or houseplant for your bedroom, to improve the air quality in your bedroom, which will help you to sleep better.

Stay Away

Your bedroom is supposed to be a sanctuary, so it makes sense that you would want to go in there to relax, as well as sleep. Unfortunately, every time you do this, you are going to bring in the dirt, dust, and bacteria from other rooms of the house and outside, making your room unclean and unhealthy. Of course, you might not be able to stay out of your room completely during the day, but if you do have to go in there, avoid sitting on the bed, especially in regular clothes.

If you want to be able to sleep better in your bedroom, then you need to do what you can to make your bedroom cleaner and healthier. Hopefully, the tips above will help you to do this, so that you can get a night of quality sleep each and every night.
