How to organise your kitchen drawers

1st January 2019

Sharing is caring!

Kitchen drawers seem to be the catch-all for all those odds and ends that need to be stored away but you are not sure where to put them. As more and more things get stored in the drawers, it is harder and harder to find what you are looking for. Don’t let your kitchen drawers become a nightmare. Use these tips to organise your kitchen drawers.

Organise your kitchen drawers

Empty the Drawers

Start by taking everything out of the drawers. It is much easier to organise starting from a blank space. Once the space is empty, you can see what space you have and what things need to be organised.

Throw Things Away / Give Things Away

Start by looking what you have that you are storing in the drawers. Chances are, at least, some of these things can be thrown away. Maybe it is old batteries or a remote for a tv you no longer have. Some people find that they have three sets of measuring cups that they don’t need and these are stored into random drawers. Get rid of duplicate items. Also, how long have these things been sitting in the drawer? If the items have been in there for about a year or more, you most likely do not need it anymore.

Group Like Things

Once you know what you are keeping, it is time to group like things. It is easier to find things when you know that these drawers hold these types of things and this drawer is for easier than these things. By grouping like things, you might also find more things to get rid of, even after you have already gone through things and gotten rid of some.

Organise the Drawer

When you are ready to put things back into the drawers, it is best to use a drawer organiser like ADDIS Drawer storage. This organisation pack comes with three trays of different sizes. It has non-slip base and fee to make sure that nothing slides around in the drawers and ruin your organization work.

Now Put it Away

Once you have added the organisers and gotten the miscellaneous items pared down to what you are keeping and which things are going together, it is time to put the drawers back together. Use the drawer organisers to keep things neat in the drawer. Do not overfill the sections.  If you put too many things into each space, soon it will be hard to find anything and the drawer will be cluttered again.

Stay on Top of It

When putting new things away in the drawers or taking something out and putting it back, be sure to do it right each time. Don’t just throw it into the draw, out it where it belongs. This keeps the drawer from being a mess and you won’t have to spend time organising again.
