When pets live with us in our home (or we live in theirs as the case is with cats) there are some changes that will inevitably have to occur. Having pets living indoors doesn’t mean that we cannot have nice things anymore. Sometimes their items can be a great addition to your already existing decor. Take a look at these ideas for pet-friendly decor…

5 Ideas for pet-friendly decor
The bookshelf
Instead of owning a plain old bookshelf, why not add some wood to build steps for the kitty to enjoy all the way to the top? We all know they love climbing and keeping them busy will keep them out of trouble (we hope).
Dog house inside
Use a nook or an unused space under a staircase to build a dog house inside. They do like to have their privacy every now and then so let them have their own room.
Table for kitty
I saw an amazing design for a table that has a curved split down the middle where grass can be planted INTO THE TABLE. It then physically grows out of it. Cats love nature but we often opt to keep them indoors because they like to wander. This option gives them a bit of nature in the safety of their homes and it looks amazing too.
Pet bed floating shelves
Curved shelves on the wall with a soft and cosy cover could be the perfect little resting place for a four-footed friend. They love to be in our company on occasion so placing these shelves in the living room or wherever we hang out will make them feel even more like family and hopefully keep them off our couches.
Wet pet pipeline
With some planning and someone who knows what they are doing to assist, you could make an amazing pipeline for your splashy friends. Some aquatic pets are very curious and they would love the freedom of going where you are, even if it’s just to check out what you are doing. It will also be an amazing experience for people who visit to have live turtles, prawns, fish or even snails moving around the house.
There are a plethora of ways in which you can combine your pet accessories and furniture with your decor and it could still look great if you do it properly but I know that if someone wants to invite a pet into their homes, they will find a way.

These are such good ideas, i’ve noticed alot more that people are trying to intergrate dog friendly decor into their house. Putting beds into the kitchen cupboards. Great post.
Some lovely ideas. I love the idea of a private nook for a dog. I bet the cats would love one too. Giving cats something to climb is a great idea too
I love the idea of having small nooks for little beds and spaces for pets x
Some fab ideas here and some lovely ways for making your resident pet feel more at home!
We can’t have any pets. But I have a lot of friends with cats – love the idea of the bookshelf steps.
I am not sure I would add some steps to the bookshelf for the cat to have fun there. My bookshelf is so important to me and I don’t want him to scratch my books on the way… But the other ideas are good!
We have a house cat and these are great ideas. Mind our cat likes to destroy things with his claws so I am putting off getting new things for the home x
Awesome ideas thank you for sharing. I really like the idea of adding some woods to a bookshelf. I could never think of that.
I recently thought about getting a cat and then realised how much we’d have to re-style our house haha. You have some really good tips here. Will keep them in mind if we do decide to get a furry little friend 🙂
Ollie has the run of the house except for the bedrooms. He has 2 beds and 2 sets of bowls so he has some choice.
