Where to hang your Christmas stockings
Staircase Railing
If you have stairs inside your home this is a great place to hang your stockings and decorate the railing all at the same time. Start with a Christmas garland and wrap it around the hand railing part of your staircase.
Take some colourful ribbon and cut a 6 to 10 inch piece. Put the ribbon through the loop on the top of your stocking and then tie it to the garland that is wrapped around the hand railing. Empty stockings are light and can be removed from the garland before they are filled so the ribbon doesn’t need to be too strong. If you prefer to fill them where they are then make sure to use a stronger ribbon and tie it tightly to the garland.
Space each Christmas stocking evenly along the railing and you will have a wonderfully decorated staircase.
Create A Focal Point In Your Living Room With Your Christmas Stockings
You may have a fireplace without a mantle such as a woodburning stove. In this case you can create a beautiful Christmas focal point on the wall around your fireplace. Purchase removable hooks to put on the wall – 3M makes a great product that you can take down after Christmas. You can find these hooks and building centers, department stores and office supply stores.
If you are decorating around a fireplace, start by placing your hooks a few feet above the top of your fireplace and place about a foot to the right and the other about a foot to the left of the fireplace. Think of your fireplace like a window and place your hooks above it as though you were placing the hardware for a curtain rod.
Once your hooks are in place, put up a Christmas garland so that when the ends hand down from each hook they reach the floor. To hang stockings it is best to use a garland that is meant to look like fir tree branches and has wire inside. For an added decorating effect, you can wind a set of mini Christmas lights through your garland or purchase a lighted garland.
Now you can hang your Christmas stockings from the garland either along the top as you would fom a fireplace mantle or down each side. You may want to add a piece of ribbon to the loop on your stocking or just use the loop itself.
Hang Your Christmas Stockings On Each Bedroom Door
You can also hang each Christmas stocking on the outside of each bedroom door. Again, removable hooks will work fine for this. Dress each stocking up with a pretty Christmas ribbon and use the loop from the stocking to hang it on the hook on the door.
Entertainment Centre
If you have an entertainment centre that has a top, then you should use that as your mantle. You can set stocking holders right on the top and hang your stockings on it. Be sure not to hang them in front of your TV so you can still watch your favourite holiday shows.
Bed
If you’re truly stumped as to where to hang stockings, think about the end of your bed if you have a footboard. The stockings can hang off the end of the footboard by using ribbon to tie them on or tacks if you don’t made tiny holes in your footboard (if it’s a wood board). You could even start a new tradition where Christmas morning you can all open up your stockings together in bed.
There are so many wonderful ways to hang the Christmas stockings and decorating your home for the holidays. Don’t get stuck thinking only one way will work. Be creative and use some festive ribbon and garland and you will enjoy the results.
