Booking a Family Holiday: Tips for making savings
When you are thinking of your next family holiday, most times your biggest concern is money. If you travel wisely and plan ahead, money shouldn’t be an issue. There are plenty of ways to save money when you book a trip for an entire family and here is our selection of tips that can easily help you save some cash, even when you’re travelling and taking a holiday.
There are actually many ways to save money on your next family holiday but these top tips are the ones that will help you the most.
Plan it on Time
This is a 101 travel rule: plan your next family holiday on time. If you are going to make last-minute bookings, they will cost you a fortune. Take at least 3 months (ideally 6) to make your reservations. That will give you enough time to pick the best rates.
Last-minute bookings are going to be expensive and will cost you a huge chunk more. Make your plan early to get in on some extra big savings.
Rent a house instead of booking a hotel
If you travel with more than 4 people, renting a house makes sense. That is the case if you invite the grandparents, cousins, or even if you chose to join two 4-member families to share a trip. (and just think of how much more room you’re going to have!)
You will find a rented house more affordable than paying for enough hotel rooms for everyone. In addition, it can be much more comfortable. This is a common option for beach and lake destinations and many people enjoy renting out houses so that they feel more “at home” and are able to cook more instead of going out to eat as well.
Some families who have a summer house rent it when they don’t use it so if you happen to know someone who owns their own summer home, you might be able to get a great deal or price from them as well.
Select the right time
While this is an important step, this is not the way most families plan their trips. (and keep this one of the down-low so don’t spread the word on this one!) Selecting the right time means that you have to book in the low season. Start your trip in the middle of the week rather than waiting for the weekend. Few people travel those days to tourist destinations, and you can get a better rate on everything than if you book it at a time when all are looking to go there.
When you choose the less crowded months for your family travel, you are going to enjoy it more. Just look at an amusement park as an example – if you chose to go to an amusement park in summer, you will spend more than half the time standing in waiting lines. But if you go off-season, you will have the park for yourselves only. Just think about how many more rides you can ride!
Frequent travel programs
Enrol everybody on as many frequent travel programs as you can. The points and money will start to add up quickly and they will pay back sooner than you think. You may get additional discounts immediately which can be super helpful but later on down the road, you are going to get free travel opportunities, too.
See how simple it can be to get some extra savings during your next family travel adventure? Why spend all your money when you really don’t have to? If you can do these simple money-saving tips, you’re going to have extra spending cash leftover that you can easily use for so many other things!
