If you’re lucky enough to have a decent amount of outdoor space, it’s well worth working out how to make it into something really lovely where you’ll want to spend time and that you can feel proud of. That means far more than just planting a few flowers and calling it a day; there’s a lot to think about, and a few different things you can do to achieve a fantastic overall look. With that in mind, because it can feel rather overwhelming when you see just what’s possible, here are some great ideas to get you started.

Transforming your outdoor space: How To Do It
Choose The Right Plants
If you’re going to have plants in your outdoor space (and although it’s traditional, and it will look lovely, it’s not essential – you can have plenty of other elements and forget about the plants altogether if you want to), you’ll need to think long and hard about exactly which plants to have. It’s not just a matter of seeing some that look pretty and planting them because the end result might not be as fabulous as you wanted.
The best thing to do is research the best plants for the type of soil you have, the amount of sunshine and shade you’ve got, and the climate you live in. Once you do that, you’ll know which plants are going to thrive and stay looking good for longer, and which ones are going to die off quickly and leave you with a sad-looking garden. It definitely makes a difference!
Take Care Of Your Water Features
Something else that’s not essential but that can really make a difference in any outdoor space is a water feature – or more than one, if you prefer. Water features come in all shapes and sizes, from ponds and fountains to tiny little sculptures, and you might even want to install a borehole to get the water to them. If that’s the case, you’ll also need to think about regular bore pump repairs to ensure everything’s running smoothly, so make sure you add that to your to-do list.
Water features are great because with very little effort, they can turn any outdoor space into a wonderfully relaxing oasis where you can quite happily spend some time just chilling out. They do need to be maintained, and you do want to choose ones that suit the size of your garden, but once you’ve got that in hand, it’s going to be great.
Make It Sustainable
Sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s something you – and everyone else – needs to put in place for life; the more sustainable you can be, the better it is for the planet, but as a bonus, it should save you money at the same time, and in some cases, it can be good for your health.
This is where you can really shine when you’ve got an outdoor space because there are so many options – you can use organic fertiliser and pesticides, you can collect rainwater for irrigation, you can create a compost heap from food waste, and so on. Put as many sustainable practices in place, and you’ll make your garden healthier and be doing your bit for the planet, so it’s a win-win.
