A Few Favourite Things – Savings 4 Savvy Mums
Hello, I’m Laura, one-half of Savings 4 Savvy Mums. We’re a parenting based blog that offers money-saving tips, tricks and bargain deals, with a dash of parenting advice thrown in. As well as our blogs, we have a growing community of Penny Pinching Parents who like a good bargain, and who share their own tips within our Facebook group.
I have two very high-spirited girls, who drive me crazy but who I love to bits! I’m a freelance writer and work around the kids, but love dabbling into anything technical and business-based.
The blog came to be last year when I was looking for money-saving tips directly written for families. I love saving money to then use it all on a big holiday or large purchase and truly believe that we could all save money on a daily basis by just throwing away a little less and being more savvy shoppers.
Favourite room in your home
My favourite room has to be the kitchen. I love everything about food! The smell, preparing it, smelling it and eating it. I see cooking dinner as my time to relax. I love nothing more than planning our meals for the week and cooking dinner.
My kids are very fussy, so the eating part I dislike currently, but the actual preparing and cooking I find very relaxing. LOL.
Favourite trend
My favourite trend is the “holes in jeans”. I love being comfy and now have the best excuse ever to not throw away all my old pairs of jeans as they are now fashionable!
I dress in jeans daily, and love how having a few holes in them now makes me cool to my kids!
Favourite thing you own
My cross necklace. It was a present from my dad and step-mum when I was sixteen. They couldn’t afford a party, or to give me any more gifts, but this necklace means the world to me. I still wear it daily. Just touching it when I’m stressed or sad reminds me that my family is behind me and that everything will be ok.
This necklace has seen a lot. From my dad and step-mum getting divorced to college and university. My now husbands proposal and marriage. Two births, three house moves and a lot of holidays under the British sun.
Favourite colour
Yellow without a doubt! It makes me think of summer, of freshness and warmth for some reason. After university, I landed a great job in a marketing firm and was finally making good money. With my first paycheck, I bought a bright yellow Mini on finance.
She was stunning! Quite, nimble and stood out in a car park so I could actually find her. The issue came when I had my first and went to John Lewis for a car seat fitting. It took three people just to get the baby seat through the door!
That was the first indication that she may have to go. It was a very sad day!!!
Favourite season
Summer every time. I love waking up to the sun shining and the blue sky. I love flip-flops and flowing dresses and sunglasses that hide all sins.
Summer means ice creams, the beach and BBQ’s in the garden, oh, and more family time. I think summer, in general, makes everyone happy! How can you not be when the sun is shining?
Favourite about where you live
I live in Southampton, which is on the south coast. We don’t have a beach, but we do have a cruise ship terminal where all the biggest ships in the world come into, which is fab to watch!
We are also only fifteen minutes from the New Forest, and half an hour from Bournemouth beach, one of the best beaches down south.
Southampton is a really family-friendly place to live. We have so many green spaces and parks and are never far away from the motorway for a cheeky trip to Paultons Park or Southsea Fun Fair.
We have so much to do here and it’s all easily accessible.

I love the yellow colour too. It makes me think of summer and puts a smile on my face.
What a fab series. I think the lounge is my favourite room as it’s our chillaxing place to watch box sets when the kids go to bed 🙂
