From Kim Kardashian’s Instagram stories to Harry and Meghan’s stunning royal wedding, the wealth and splendour of the modern celebrity is truly something to behold. For the average person, however, it’s not always easy to understand how the lives of the great and good equate to their own – after all, most of us will never live in a mansion, or hold our wedding reception in Windsor Castle!
How many homes could the stars buy in your area?
Just Mortgage Brokers have come up with a smart tool for comparing your own life to those of the rich and famous; this simple calculator tallies the average house price in your chosen postcode with the estimated wealth of a variety of stars and works out how many homes they could buy in your area. Whether you’d like to work out how many streets Ed Sheeran (worth around £80m) could own in his hometown of Framlingham in Suffolk, or see how many properties Beyoncé – estimated net worth of £266m – could afford in one of the more affluent parts of central London, this will provide the answer.
Owning a street or two
If you’ve ever wondered how many homes Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, rumoured to be worth over £25m, would be able to purchase in your town, here’s your chance. With the average UK property now valued at £232,554, we’re pretty sure she’ll be able to own at least a street or two!
At just 14 years of age, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has amassed an impressive £2.28m fortune – enough to buy six streets in the cheapest part of the country, Nelson in Lancashire. With a long career ahead of her, it’s not difficult to imagine that in a few years Brown may be able to afford a mansion or two in one of the richer parts of the country – she would already be able to buy a home in stylish Kensington.
Actor Tom Holland is best known for playing Spider-Man, but he once starred in a stage presentation of Billy Elliot. Now worth an incredible £110m, the screen icon could afford an incredible 468 homes in Durham, where the story is set – in fact, he could buy nine streets and still have money left over for ballet classes!
Wimbledon is one of the more affluent parts of the UK, known for hosting the world’s most respected tennis tournament – but did you know that the famous SW19 postcode’s average house price is a cool £750k? At that price, tennis legend Serena Williams’ £129m fortune would stretch to 172 homes in the area – and she would save a fortune on travel expenses!
While house prices have remained steady in recent months, they are still worryingly high, with average prices ranging from £132,049 in the North East to £482,241 in London as of September 2018 – making it difficult for first-time buyers to reach the first rung of the property ladder.
Of course, this has little impact on celebrities, with the biggest stars getting richer every year. It seems unlikely, however, that they will be buying up houses or streets in “normal” parts of the country any time soon. Modern stars seem to prefer the glitz and glamour of upmarket London suburbs and country hideaways, while spending big on sophisticated renovations to get their homes exactly as they want them to be – so you’re unlikely to see Taylor Swift or Eminem in your local supermarket any time soon!
